MILTON SOCCER DONATES WARM-UPS TO KENYA THROUGH PARTNERS FOR CARE

The Milton Eagles Soccer program has donated its second shipment of warm-up jackets and pants to Kenya through Partners for Care who uses sports ministry to capture the hearts of young people in the slum in order to keep them away from destructive behavior (idleness, drugs, etc.). When Partners for Care first started the soccer program, there were no teams in the Marurui slum - now there are twelve (with substitute players!). And two players did so well that they were recruited into what is the equivalent of the "minor leagues" here in Kenya - paid positions.  The staff does "double duty" as volunteer coaches for our soccer and volleyball programs.  They help kids do much more than just learn to play a sport; they work to help them develop a sense of accountability, belonging and care for others --- life skills for hope and a better future.

The second shipment was sent to Marsabit, a remote region of northeastern Kenya just south of Ethiopia where Partners for Care has small staff who provide medical care to children suffering from malnutrition and various illnesses and infections. Once the children are medically stabilized and able to return to school, they are invited to join a soccer team where they are mentored by volunteer coaches to develop both soccer and, more importantly, life skills.  Most people in this area live in abject poverty without even the basics -- food, clothing, education, healthcare.  Kids rarely have a complete set of clothing of any kind, let alone sports gear.  To be invited to play on a team and to have a soccer jacket and matching pants is a rare privilege for these kids.  Partners for Care and Milton Soccer think sports programs make a huge difference in the lives of these kids.
